Helpful information

Step by step guide

1. Put on disposable gloves and heat a pot with water to create a water bath for the glass beaker. The water should be hot, nearly boiling.
2. Place the wax, shea butter, mango butter, and almond oil into the glass beaker (do not add the pigment yet!).
3. Place the glass beaker into the water bath and heat until everything is fully melted. Stir constantly with a wooden spatula (there should be no floating chunks). The liquid will become clear, and the mixture temperature should reach 70-75°C.
4. Using a heat-resistant glove or towel, carefully remove the glass beaker from the water bath.
5. Now you can decide: leave the balm colorless (naturally yellow) or add pink pigment (this won't add color to the lips, just more shine).
6. If you want a natural-colored balm, carefully pour the hot mixture into the provided aluminum containers. Let it set for about 30 minutes.
7. If you chose to use pigment (a great choice!), pour it into the contents of the glass beaker. Stir patiently until the pigment works its magic on your lip balm formula. There should be no clumps of pigment left, and the liquid will turn a pearlescent pink.
8. If the mixture cools down and begins to thicken while adding the pigment, feel free to place it back in the water bath for a bit to warm it up.
9. Pour the hot, pigmented mixture into the provided containers and watch the process unfold – true chemistry magic!
10. Once the product has set, use the empty labels and write the name of your lip balm!

Why is calculating weight percentage important?

In cosmetic creation, weight percentage helps chemists design products that are safe, effective, and balanced. By knowing exactly how much of each ingredient is in the formula, we can ensure the product feels right, works well, and follows industry guidelines. For your DIY project, understanding percentages will let you experience the same process cosmetic chemists use every day to craft their products. Plus, it’s a fun way to see the science behind your creation!

Storage conditions and warnings

Store a DIY kit and lip balms at a temperature below +20°C and keep away from direct sunlight.
Avoid contact with eyes.
Do not use it on open wounds, burns, or damaged skin.
This DIY Lip Balm Kit is not suitable for unsupervised use by children. Parental advisory is mandatory. Children should not use this kit without the direct supervision of an adult.

How to calculate weight percentage (w%)?

Don’t worry—it’s easy, and we’ve already measured the ingredients for you! The weight of each ingredient is written on its bag or jar.

Find the ingredient weight: Check the number on the ingredient bag or jar.

Find the total weight: Add up the weights of all the ingredient bags and jars in the kit.

Do the math: Divide the ingredient's weight by the total weight.

Multiply the result by 100 to get the percentage.
